VT vs Clemson Preview

Virginia Tech hits the road to take on the Clemson Tigers at Noon.

Michael Shroyer-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech travels into a hostile environment Saturday to take on the Clemson Tigers. The Hokies enter the contest coming off their second ACC win of the season and have their sights set on picking up 2 in a row. Tip-off is scheduled for Noon in Littlejohn Coliseum.

Clemson (14-10, 6-6) comes into the matchup having lost a close one to Notre Dame their last time out; a game in which the Tigers held the Fighting Irish to 60 points. The Tigers are led by Sophomore forward Jaron Blossomgame who is averaging 13 points and 8 rebounds per contest.

As a team, Clemson, shoots only 41% from the field on the season, but records ~37 rebounds per game. The Tigers are strong defensively and are able to get and limit second chance opportunities by rebounding well, as a team.

Defensively, the Tigers wont give their opponents many easy opportunities, which is why they give up only 60.3 points per contest.

Virginia Tech came out on fire against Georgia Tech their last time out, but eventually let the Yellow Jackets back into the game until a late rally pushed the Hokies ahead with under a minute to go.

The youth movement is paying off for the Hokies because every game the Freshmen seem to make fewer mistake and more plays. Justin Bibbs, Ahmed Hill, Jalen Hudson and Malik Muller have all stepped up and grown over the course of Buzz Williams first year in Blacksburg.

Keys to the game: (Pretty consistent from week to week)

  • Rebound the basketball as a team.
  • Push the Tigers in transition to get easy baskets.
  • Play defense for 35 seconds (limit the mental mistakes with
  • Play inside-out.
