It was only a matter of time. If you follow this site, there have been promises of a great name returning home. We have forecasted, postulated, and prognosticated. The wait is over.
On Frank Beamer's website, the announcement was made. That's a solid choice. When it comes to bringing on G.A.'s, there are two schools of thought. There are programs out there who like to make a splash. There are other schools out there who like to bring someone into the system that is mutually beneficial. Grimm fits the latter of the two scenarios. He truly wants to coach. It may be at the collegiate or professional level. One thing in for certain, he has tons of respect for Bud Foster.
Cody Grimm on Bud Foster: "I worked under three different coordinators in the NFL and none were as good as coach Foster."— Hunker Down Hokies (@HunkerDownHokie) April 3, 2015
Grimm brought that physical presence that we all can agree was lacking in recent years. He certainly has the lineage of success. Just in case you forgot, his dad was a member of the famed "Hogs" up in Washington. Russ Grimm has had decent coaching run in the N.F.L., with gigs in Washington, Pittsburgh, and Arizona. Oh, and by the way, he has a bust in the N.F.L. Hall of Fame. Cody played on Sundays in Tampa, and counts his 2009 season in Blacksburg as his best of the collegiate days. He was named first team All-A.C.C., and third team All-American. He also collected the Defensive M.V.P. of the Chick-fil-A Bowl that same year. V.T. drubbed Tennessee in the Atlanta game, and hopefully Grimm can bring that to Bristol next year. Cody was a hitmaster, which this defense sorely needs. It also doesn't hurt that Cody is freshly removed from an N.F.L career. He also walked on to Tech. .
"He walked on. I just wanted to that to sink in with the dreams of 3 and 4*'s dancing in your head."
I for one can's be happier. Here's a guy that communicate with the next generation of Hokies. Grimm is a guy that commands respect in the locker room. He is also getting the best of educations from the Dean of Defense:Bud Foster.
