Hokies Safety Draws Big Comparison

Adonis Alexander Reminds Coaches of Current All Pro Safety

Michael Shroyer-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech is in the midst of preparing for the upcoming football season. Frank Beamer and his staff are determining which players will make an immediate impact and who still needs time to develop.

One freshman that might be counted on to contribute sooner rather than later is Adonis Alexander. The 6-foot-3 safety is drawing rave reviews from coaches and comparisons to former Hokie great Kam Chancellor.

Only a few months removed from high school, Alexander is taking every opportunity to prove he deserves to get on the field right away.

Chancellor outweighs Alexander by about 30-35 pounds, but both are similar in height, length and speed. The all-pro Seahawk is known for his big hits and makes wide receivers think twice before going over the middle.

With the loss of C.J. Reavis, the Hokies may be able to use the depth in the secondary. The defense will be counted on heavily this season, so the more playmakers the better.
