The Hokies outshot the Spartans 17-10 behind the leg of sophomore Ricardo John. John led the VPI efforts with five shots. Senior Daniel Lauretano added three more. By the end of regulation the score remained 0-0 and the Hokies and Spartans headed into overtime. The initial extra period was also completed without a score, but halfway through the second overtime UNCG’s Chris Putland was able to put one past VPI sophomore keeper Ben Lundgaard.
