Although C.J. Reavis will not be returning to the Hokie’s football lineup, the university announced, on Friday, that the other student athlete embroiled in misconduct this year, running back Shai McKenzie, has been reinstated to the team. Previous to this restoration McKenzie was serving an indefinite suspension after being found guilty of a misdemeanor charge and sentenced to 15 days in jail and 50 hours of community service. Over the summer the sophomore’s status of remaining a Virginia Tech football player was in question.
McKenzie was reinstated in time for the start of VPI’s autumn practice, but not all of his punitive obligations have been satisfied. At a minimum the running back will be suspended for Virginia Tech’s home opener against the Ohio State Buckeyes on September 7. The university stated that, "as long as he maintains good standing and conducts himself in a manner we expect from our student athletes," he will be eligible to participate in Virginia Tech’s match against Furman.
What are your thoughts on this move? Should VT have reinstated McKenzie?
