We, Hokie Nation, pause and gather our thoughts before today's contest. We search for meaning, and seek to place the bitter memories of defeat behind us. Never forgotten because in pain there is chance for redemption.

Through the rain of disappointment and fog of pain
We find it within ourselves to gather our commitment
Breathe in deep draughts of clearing coolness
We struggle to our feet upon contest's plain
Despair fades as the ache recedes but never passes
And we resolve to rise from our defeat more humble
And victorious song reaches redemption's refrain
