Here's a look back on Virginia Tech's recruits and their performances this week of Friday, September 11th. Three players were off this week- Samuel Denmark, Thomas Jarrett Hopple, and Emmanuel Belmar.
Victor Greene (Spotsylvania, VA. 215lbs, 6'-0", Outside Linebacker)
Greene rushed for seventy two yards and three touchdowns last night in a shellacking of Louisa County- Courland won 50-24- helping the Cougars to a 2-1 record. After fumbling 11 times in the first couple of games, they didn't fumble once. Fumbling is always a problem when you run a wishbone/flexbone style of option offense, and when you can't keep the ball in your hands, it's definitely going to squash your record. I continue to think Greene is not going to calculate out at linebacker due to his size, but I like his ability as a runner.
Joshua Jackson (Saline, MI. 200lbs, 6'-2", Dual-threat Quarterback)
Jackson was a sensation this week, leading the Saline Hornets to a 45-6 win over Ann Arbor Skyline. Jackson played the role of dual threat on Friday night, running for a score and going 13-22 for 198 yards and a touchdown. The Hornets are now 3-0 on the season with a division win under their belts.
Divine Deablo (Winston-Salem, NC. 180lbs, 6'-3", Wide Receiver)
Deablo's Mount Tabor Spartans managed a 25-22 win over the Glenn Bobcats. Diablo didn't score a touchdown in the win. Sorry, no video or deeper stats were available.
Reggie Floyd (Manassas, VA. 205lbs, 6'-0", Athlete)
Stonewall Jackson has now dropped to 0-3 on the season as they lose to North Stafford, 35-21. Floyd rushed for 22 attempts, gaining 137 yards and two touchdowns on the evening, to go with three catches for fourteen yards. Again, no tape for this particular game.
Eric Kumah (Woodbridge, VA. 205lbs, 6'-3", Wide Receiver)
Kumah's Forest Park Bruins unfortunately now joins the loser's column, as the Bruins drop their first away game to Brooke Point, 34-21. Kumah's size and ball skills as a receiver were still on tap, though, as he scored a long touchdown on a ball that popped out of a fellow receiver's hands, and delivered a couple of other smooth moves and strong ones as he worked his way to a ridiculous 195 yards on seven catches and the aforementioned TD.
Phillip Patterson (Virginia Beach, VA. 180lbs, 6'-2". Wide Receiver)
Patterson's team was luckier than Kumah's, as the Bayside Marlins downed the Kellam Knights on a long late drive for the winning touchdown- final score was 33-28, leaving Bayside at 3-0 for the year. Unfortunately, stats and video cannot be located.
Jimmie Taylor (Jacksonville, NC. 220lbs, 6'-3". Defensive End)
Taylor's Southwest Onslow High defeated Jones Senior High for the 31st year running on Friday night, 34-22. This now evens out their record at 2-2. Taylor's Hudl account still has no film for this year, and unfortunately there are little to no defensive stats available for high school football.
Troy Pride, Jr. (Greer, SC. 165lbs, 6'-0", Cornerback)
(vs. Riverside)
(vs. Union County)
Troy Pride has two games I'll report on. The first game, vs. Riverside, was back last Saturday after a rain delay. It was another high school laugher. Greer ran away with it 49-6, in which Pride had a touchdown return on a punt, three catches for 24 yards, and an interception. Friday night's game against Union County was a wild 35-28 shootout, which saw Pride catch three passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, including the winning touchdown with 1:01 remaining. Greer is now 3-0 on the year.
Tavante Beckett (Chesapeake, VA. 215lbs, 6'-0", Outside Linebacker)
Beckett's Indian River team bludgeoned Great Bridge in a shutout, 35-0. Beckett was in the backfield all night, and recorded a 2-point conversion catch. Indian River is now 2-0 going into a game with King's Fork next week.
Patrick Kearns (Rome, GA. 270lbs, 6'-5.5", Offensive Line)
Kearns's Darlington School beat King's Ridge Christian, 27-7. Darlington now sits at 3-0 to begin its season, though it just had two weeks off to prepare for King's Ridge, and continues its streak of holding its opponents to only a single touchdown. Unfortunately, Kearns is currently injured- ankle- and did not play.
Clay Dean (Purcellville, VA. 255lbs, 6'-2", Defensive Tackle)
Dean's Woodgrove High dominated Loudon County, totaling 56 points against 14 in the victory. Dean does not currently have any Senior highlights, so the game above is from last year's Loudon County game.
Jovonn Quillen (Hampton, VA. 185lbs, 6'-2", Athlete)
In another crazy game, Hampton pulled away from Heritage, 42-20. Jovonn had two touchdown passes and two rushing touchdowns, showing his dual-threat nature as well. Several of his runs were busted pocket plays, allowing him to flash his open-field moves some. Quillen's Hudl account also has no senior season highlights.
Myles Wolfolk (Upper Marlboro, MD. 185lbs, 5'-11", Cornerback)
Wolfolk and the Dr. Henry Wise Pumas absolutely obliterated their competition- a complete woodshedding to the tune of 73-0 over Parkdale High School. Myles Wolfolk nabbed a pick-6 in the game as shown above. This puts the Pumas at 2-0 on the season.
Stay tuned next week for more Hokie High School recruiting news!
