The women's volleyball team finished up their weekend at the Indiana Invitational with a 3-1 victory against Bowling Green but falling to Indiana and Northern Arizona. With the first two losses on the season, the Hokies improved to 7-2 on the season. The Hokies hope to continue to improve on the season as they return home on Saturday to host the Hokie Invitational and will play Middle Tennessee on Friday and Chattanooga and Liberty on Saturday.

Virginia Tech runner Shannon Morton finished in 10th place as the women's cross country team opened their season at the Hokie Invite held at Buford Meredith Cross Country Course on Sept. 4. North Carolina had six runners in the top 10 and claimed first in team competition. Due to inclement weather the race was delayed 45 minutes but eventually got underway. The men's race got underway after the women's but unfortunately officials halted the race about midway through and it was later cancelled. The Hokies will compete again this Friday at the VT Alumni Invite at Buford Meredith Cross Country Course.

The men's soccer team had a tough fall to No. 3 North Caroline on Friday night, losing 2-0. This was the ACC opener for both teams as the Hokies moved to 2-2-0 on the season. UNC outshot the Hokies 12-5 and held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Hokies will play a road game for the third time in four games as they travel to play VMI on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
