Friday Night Quick Hits: Final OV Weekend

January 29th-31st is the last weekend for recruits to officially visit colleges before signing day? So who's at Tech now, and which way is the wind blowing?

Alright, ladies and gents, outside of the commitments themselves and a wrap-up piece, this is the last showdown. The final shindig for the class of 2016. Anyone we'd get in after this would be a real squeeze. But this weekend, Tech's got a ton of visitors, many from the already-committed, but many that remain uncommitted. Note: Any and all numbers are mostly in fun. Not many people realized that Jovani Haskins was going to commit to Miami out of the blue. Wouldn't've called that one. Recruits will do what they do.

First I'll go back to the visitors the last couple nights. Rick Wells, 4-star WR from Florida, didn't give much of a hint one way or another on his twitter headline, purposefully teasing.

We'll see what happens with him; he's in Gainesville today taking an official to Florida, where he's already committed. I'd put the odds right now that he stays committed to the Gators, but we're not out of flipping him by any means.

Dylan Powell, 3-star guard from Missouri, apparently enjoyed himself. 247 has an article that said he was blown away, but he's apparently always wanted the Stanford offer he got recently. They also took another guard's commitment back, though since he's there on official and we haven't seen heavy movement one way or another, suffice to say they'd still take him. It's between us, the tree, and Iowa State.

Tyree Rodgers is a bit of a late approach- he was just recently offered. A 3-star WR/DB (from what I can tell, for us, he's a DB) from New Jersey, Rodgers is currently committed to ODU. However, the fact that he reported the offer on the 27th, bolted right down here, and apparently cancelled his visit to Rutgers? I'd be safe to say that either he's staying with ODU, or flipping to us.

What about Gatorade Player of the Year for Alabama, Tyrrell Pigrome? Welp, the 3-star QB/ATH might get to hold onto his QB part longer. Apparently, Coach Fu is going to let him take a shot at being a signal caller. His tape is good at quarterback, you can't deny that, but his frame is obviously a tad on the small side for it. Momentum is swinging our way after it had apparently been rolling toward Maryland's. Right now the Crystal Ball predictors on 247 have us getting his recruitment- and I tend to listen when Evan Watkins throws his hat in one direction or another. The guy is rarely wrong when it comes to Tech.

As for current visitors...

That's just for our currently VT committed prospects. Nothing to give you on Clay Dean or TJ Jackson. My source said that Phillip Patterson would have come, but he has a job that wouldn't let him off for this weekend.

As for other prospects? Ones committed to other schools or are uncommitted?

3-star Florida DT Jarrod Hewitt's been a Tech lean for a while, ever since he uncommitted from Rutgers. I'd be shocked if he didn't commit to the Hokies.

Since JaQuan Bailey- 3-star DE from Florida- decommitted from Florida, it's been us and Tennessee after him for a commitment. I'd be surprised if he went with the Volunteers, but not overly shocked. Obviously we'd love to have him in maroon and orange for the next four years. Considering this is the pinned tweet on his twitter feed, but nothing is set just yet officially.

Moving on, we've got 2-Star LB Eron Carter...

...who's making me hungry. He should commit to the Hokies if our linebacking class needs more work after visits.

Then there's Coney Durr, a 3-star cornerback from Louisiana. He's committed to Minnesota currently, but when Evan Watkins speaks, I listen, and he's predicting a flip. Fingers crossed.

We know Dominique Ross is in town this weekend. A 3-star linebacker from Florida, he's currently a UNC commit. Let's just hope he comes in with an open mind. Another UNC commit, Tomon Fox, is apparently up here with Emmanuel Belmar. Belmar's a teammate of his, and rather disapproves of what Fox had said earlier this week.

Keith Simms already had an official down here, and he's supposed to announce by Monday. It's between us and Oregon, and right now, more wind is blowing toward the west than here- but who knows.

Either way, if you tied me down? This is my thoughts on decisions:

Very High Chance:

Jarrod Hewitt, Tyree Rodgers, Eron Carter

High Chance:

Tyrrell Pigrome, JaQuan Bailey, Coney Durr

Medium Chance:

Dylan Powell, Rick Wells

Low Chance:

Dominique Ross, Keith Simms

Very Low Chance:

Tomon Fox

At any rate, have your fingers crossed. This could be a very successful weekend for a class that needs help and numbers, or one that could leave us in the lurch.
