Virginia Tech’s Banner Recruiting Day

Wednesday was a huge day for multiple Hokie sports teams, with Signing Day bringing in big dividends, and the football team gaining a new pledge for the 2018 class.

Virginia Tech had a great day on Wednesday. The Hokies’ Men’s Basketball team secured two NLIs from highly ranked players- Wabissa Bede and Nickiel Alexander-Walker. Bede, a point guard from Lowell, Massachusetts, and Alexander-Walker, a shooting guard from Toronto, Ontario, Canada via St. Louis, Missouri, are two of the highest-ranked players ever to sign to Virginia Tech, and almost certainly as a duo make for one of the most talented classes Virginia Tech has ever had. Welcome them to the university.

Virginia Tech also pulled in NLIs from players all over multiple sports, as it was a major signing day for ‘non-revenue’ sports as well. That includes wrestler Mekhi Lewis from New Jersey (joining last year’s #4 ranked wrestling program, no less).

The softball team inked Sammi Miller of Huntsville, Ohio, Jordan Dail of Lynchburg, VA, Keely Rochard of Williamsburg, VA, Casey Barrett of Mechanicsville, VA, Darby Trull of Charlotte, NC, and Cana Davis of Harrisonburg, VA.

The Women’s Lacrosse team added Paige Petty of Bernardsville, NJ, Leigh Lingo of Rehoboth Beach, DE, Caroline Barwick of Fallston, MD, Reilly Reed of Chapel Hill, NC, Lea Cox and Elena Ricci of Alexandria, VA, Jenna Doyle of Pittsford, NY, and Carly Goetz of Chaska, MN.

VT Men’s Golf added VSGA Junior Boys Golfer of the year Connor Burgess of Lynchburg, VA.

And the volleyball team added Charlotte, NC native Kai Young.

Lest I forget, the baseball team got a commitment on Tuesday from Derek Drees of Eden Prairie, MN.

And finally, Virginia Tech Men’s football team added another class of 2018 pledge with safety Chamarri Conner from Trinity Christian Academy in Jacksonville, Florida. Conner rates as a high three/low four star safety right now, and joins DeJuan Ellis and Bryce Thompson as the current three commitments for next year’s class.

Let’s go to the tape for more on Conner.

Chamarri Conner (Jacksonville, FL. 6’-0”, 183lbs. Safety)

Conner is a big hitter for his size, and an eager and willing tackler- think of him in the Chuck Clark mold that way. He’s not of massive size right now, but when a junior hits like a freight train, and still has the ball skills and awareness to jump routes and intercept passes and make plays in space, he’s definitely worth an add. Coming from a prestigious football school like Trinity Christian, Conner has already drawn interest from several schools, with offers coming from Charlotte, Colorado, Florida, Fresno State, Michigan, NC State, UNC, Oregon State, South Carolina, USF, and Wake Forest. Recruited by Florida area recruiter Charley Wiles and safeties coach Galen Scott, Conner will be a good building block of Hokies secondaries in the future- I’d expect him to get a shot at any or all of Whip, Rover, or Free Safety- his combination of skills give him that kind of versatility.

Congratulations to the new commitment, and to all the new Hokies that Virginia Tech inked on Wednesday. Welcome to the VT family!
