Hokies Throttle High Point 99-73

NCAA Basketball: High Point at Virginia Tech Michael Shroyer-USA TODAY Sports

Virginia Tech could not hit the century mark Tuesday night, but they came pretty darn close. The 99 points for Buzz Williams’ side is the highest total the offense has put up since he’s been in Blacksburg.

In the first half, the Hokies simply could not miss. At one point, they were 15/17 (88%) from the field, knocking down 8 of their first 10 three-pointers. The ball movement was crisp, beating nearly every type of defense the Panthers threw at them. This led to a 60-point first half for Virginia Tech, just eight points shy of the school record for most points in a single period.

Four Hokies scored more than 10 points against High Point, but Ahmed Hill had one of the more, if not the most impressive performance of the night. After a strong season debut against Maine, the redshirt-sophomore hit six of his eleven three-point attempts en route to a 20 point performance.

Seth Allen chipped in with a well-rounded 19/5/5 performance, and freshman Khadim Sy once more put together another solid outing on the boards, notching six rebounds in addition to his 14 points. He looks like a really good young player that will likely see a lot of time on the floor for the rest of the season.

Virginia Tech’s next game is against VMI on Saturday at 7 PM EST in Cassell Coliseum.
