When Georgia Tech invades Lane Stadium Saturday, they will do so as 14 point underdogs. The Hokies are 9-4 all time against the Yellow Jackets. Last year, the Hokies won a squeaker, 23-21. Shockingly, the Hokies played Georgia Tech for the first time in 1990. Both teams have had football programs seemingly forever, and that stat really surprised me. The biggest upset in VT/GT history happened in 2009. The #4 ranked Hokies fell to the #19 Jackets 28-23. Let’s hope Virginia Tech doesn’t fall prey to the upset bug this weekend.
Historically these games have seen some record breaking performances. In 2006 Sean Glennon attempted 53 passes. This is a record he shares with Don Strock for most passes attempted in a game. The largest margin of victory for the Hokies was in 2005, with a 51-7 beat down. The Hokies are tied with the Jackets in producing N.F.L. talent. Both teams have provided 10 first rounders.
Both of the schools have never had a Heisman winner. All time wins are neck and neck. Virginia Tech has 726, Georgia Tech has 719. Look for some offense on Saturday from the Hokies to change these numbers. Thanks to Winsipedia for an interesting look at the numbers!
