If you decided to give up after 30 minutes of action, you missed out. The Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Arkansas Razorbacks, 35-24, in one of the most impressive comebacks in school history.
After trailing 24-0 at the half, the Hokies appeared dead and looked well on their way to another disappointing performance.
Then, the defense stepped up.
Anthony Shegog and Mook Reynolds were especially impressive in the second half. Shegog forced a fumble early in the second half that led to Tech’s first touchdown. Then, Shegog picks off another pass and the drive was capped off by an impressive Sam Rogers’ touchdown catch to make it 24-14.
The defense continued to stand up tall. Both Edmunds’ brothers—Tremaine and Terrell—picked off second-half passes that led to scores and Reynolds harassed Arkansas quarterback Austin Allen numerous times in the second half.
Overall, the Hokies sacked Allen six times in the second half and the offense finally got going.
What started out as a horrible night for the Hokies, ended with a sweet victory for first-year head coach Justin Fuente.
Welcome back to the 10-win club, Hokies.
Now it’s time to finish off a strong recruiting class and hope Isaiah Ford decides to spend one more year in Blacksburg.
