Virginia Tech Hokie Baseball Season Starts In Four Days!

New, comment

Four Days until the First Pitch of the 2016 Hokie Baseball Season. The webcast schedule is thin, but we will find ways to cover as much as we can. Our ball players deserve the best. We open away in Charleston against the Citadel. Let's hope for a great start, and a solid performance.

It's really hard to say this, because professional pitchers and catchers are about to report to MLB Spring training (Grapefruit League in Florida for the Eastern teams, and Cactus League in Arizona for the Western folks.) It would be nice to say that the Hokies are going to have a lovely midwinter start in environs a bit more exciting, but Charleston, South Carolina and a three game series with the Citadel will have to do.  The home opener is February 23rd at English Field, and even the most accurate weathermen haven't a chance of predicting whether the game will be played in a subfreezing windy Blacksburg February day, or something closer to tolerable.

Hokie Sports has published the webcast (I'd say telecast, but who is fooling whom here?  ESPN3 is a webcast, and so his HokiesExtra).  There is no looking a gift horse in the mouth on this one, though.  Having at least a good part of the season on visual will definitely be better than reviewing written stories.

Of course this doesn't cover anything near the entire season.  We will endeavor to find the games online, even if it means listening to the other teams' announcers.  It's sort of disappointing to have so few games broadcast out of the 54 in the schedule.

But there will always be something to cover and Gobbler Country will keep you up to date on the season and the events.  Please bear with us as we work on formats and box scores along with the game reporting.  We here at GC firmly believe that baseball is going to become an increasingly important college sport.  With the Wahoos sitting on the top of the NCAA Baseball mountain, the Hokies have a chance to compete on the big stage.

Let's be there for our team.  When we can stream, we will.  If we can't we'll set up an article block and commentary stream for anyone who's watching.  We look forward to a new season and adding regular coverage of a new sport.

When we find information on possible streaming links, or webcasts for games not covered by the regular broadcast schedule we'll put out the information, so be watching.
