The Monarchs played two baseball games, today; the first was 3 innings of a pitching duel, and the second a 22 run 6 inning softball type meltdown. The Hokies lit up the scoreboard for an 11 run 4th, but Kit Sheetz also had a great day with a one hit seven inning masterpiece from the mound. The Hokies get back to .500 at 3-3, while ending the ODU Monarch's unbeaten streak.

What the charts really don't do justice to is the amazing game that Kit Sheetz put in from the mound; 10 batters retired in a row, only interrupted by a solo double by ODU's Nick Walker. We see the numbers for Phil Sciretta's monster five hit, two run, SEVEN (yes that's 7!) RBI effort at the plate. The fourth, the Hokies batted around nearly twice with Saige Jenco walking twice and scoring twice. Most of the lineup scored that inning, at least once.
The Hokies didn't give up after the fourth, even while Coach Mason started pulling starters and getting some playing time for the bench. Max Ponzurick's second knock for the day was a 2 out 2 run shot to left field that added two more to the two runs already added by some small ball hustle. The Hokies put up six more in the top of the 8th.
We can't let this one go without mentioning Sam Fragale with a two hit, two run, three RBI effort. Grant Maiorana scored three runs with 2 RBI. It was just a "career" day for a long list of players. It makes you cringe for the ‘batting karma' in the next few games, though. We will see, since Sunday the Hokies are up against the Manhattan Jaspers, at 11:00 in the morning!
