Virginia Tech's pitching woes continued with another disappointing outing for the staff. Packy Naughton started, but only made it two and a third before the barrage of balls headed for the outfield and out of English Field at Union Park sent Coach Pat Mason to the mound calling for reliever Joey Sullivan. He and Chris Monaco, who followed an inning later, didn't fare much better dropping 10 runs between them.
It was nice to see a high quality video where the action was a bit better to get a visual grasp on. Tech just couldn't figure out how to keep the ball down and on the edges of the strike zone. Notre Dame's Jake Shepski beat us by himself with a total of THREE!! Home Runs, and a deep low triple to the far right field corner. His 9 RBI more than doubled the Hokie's final total.
Tech's fielding also suffered today as the wind played havoc with balls in the air, and the pitchers just didn't seem to be able to throw unhittable strikes, or at least keep the ball in the infield.

Home Run: Freiday (His First. Congratulations!)
RBI: Anderson (2); Freiday
Whit Babcock paid a visit to the press box for a couple of innings to talk about the new Union Bank sponsorship deal and the big multiyear renovation plan for English Field, now English Field at Union Park. Whit was a college baseball player at JMU and has a real interest in the program's success. He is looking to increasing the local popularity of Hokie baseball. The facilities upgrade will definitely be a big help, but something else is even more important than that. We just won't talk about it.
The Hokies and the Irish square off again tomorrow at 5:30 PM. We get another ESPN3 webcast.
