The Chick-fil-A Bowl and the Virginia Tech Hokies are well acquainted. The Hokies have played in the bowl game in 2009, with the Hokies defeating the Tennessee Volunteers. The bowl game does charity work year round, with one of the main events being the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge charity golf event. The tournament is in its 10th year, and Frank Beamer is no stranger in this star studded spectacle. The tournament pairs college coaches and a famous alum for a scramble type shootout. In previous years Beamer partnered with former Hokie legend Dell Curry. This year Beamer will be paired with former QB and Salem native Cam Young.Beamer_Golf.0.html
The only other former coach invited to play this year is former Gamecock Steve Spurrier. Spurrier is quite the golfer with $477,00 in scholarship and charity money raised in his Challenge appearances. The all time leading money winner in the event is a familiar A.C.C. face: Paul Johson from Georgia Tech has won an eye popping $682,500. Beamer comes in third all time on the money list with $355,000.
The event will be held at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Resort just outside of metro Atlanta. Some other notable coaches that are scheduled to play include: Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney, Urban Meyer, and Kirby Smart. Some of the big time alumni that are teeing it up include: Bo Jackson, Wesley Walls, and Sterling Sharpe. It is quite the star studded affair. The first tee shot will crank up on May 1st, and will continue to May 3rd. All Atlanta based Hokies are encouraged to attend to root Frank and Cam on to victory.
