Virginia Tech Hokies Lose Game 1 to Louisville, 8-4

Tech comes up short, and the bats fall silent after a productive 3rd inning, to drop Game 1 to the Cardinals.

Kit Sheetz started off the game with a modest but reasonable effort that had the Hokies up by two in the as the Hokies took their at bats in the top of the 4th inning.  A solid at bat in the bottom of the 3rd resulted in a 4 run rally containing 2 Hokie ‘taters.  Matt Dauby hit a solo shot to lead off the inning, and Phil Sciretta smacked an inside the park three run shot to center field.

W: Brendan McKay (6-1)    L: Kit Scheetz (3-3)

Unfortunately that pretty much ended any meaningful  offense from the Hokies, and Louisville would begin slicing away at the lead with a 2 run 4th, a 2 run 5th, and a 2 run 7th to add insurmountable insurance.

Tech's offense rarely made it beyond first base.  There was a glimmer of hope in the top of the sixth with a little 1 out rally and men on 2nd and 3rd.  That died of a strike out and a ground out and was not revisited for the remainder of the game.

Game 2 is to be played on ESPN3 again if you want to catch it at 1:00 PM.  The Hokies are just going to have to find their offense, and bring it to the stadium on Sunday.  Even with a loss, the Hokies proved that if they had kept scoring pace, they had a chance to challenge the Cardinals.  Maybe someone will notice for Game 2.

GO HOKIES!!!!
