Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente left Memphis this season to come to Blacksburg. Fuente's star quarterback at Memphis, Paxton Lynch, was highly regarded heading into this year's N.F.L. draft. When Jared Goff and Carson Wentz were selected 1-2, it was a long wait for Lynch. The Denver Broncos eventually traded with the Seattle Seahawks to move up to the 26th overall pick. John Elway and the Broncos then got their quarterback. Lynch is a physical monster at 6'7" and has uncanny foot speed. Lynch will compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting job for the defending Super Bowl champions.

This will certainly help Fuente's credibility when recruiting QB's. It will also give a little more resonance when coaching the current Hokies QBs. Leading up to the draft, the knock on Lynch was that he was rarely under center and running a "traditional" offense. There will be a learning curve, but the Broncos got one heck of a player.
