Virginia Tech Football Helmets Like You've Never Seen Them

Creating Virginia Tech helmets is superfan Jake Gonnering's passion.

Des Moines, Iowa might be the last place you'd look to find a Virginia Tech Hokie fan.  Jake Gonnering is one such fan, who resides there after playing football at the University of Northern Iowa. As a teenager, Jake was captivated with Michael Vick and the magical 1999 Hokies club.  He is still a huge Virginia Tech fan, and is channeling his passion into some amazing creations.  Jake always liked "looking mean or at least unique" in his playing days, and you can see that in some of his Virginia Tech helmets.  Jake hand paints most of the helmets, and uses high quality shells and padding.

The coolest helmet that he has created, in my opinion, is the riff on one of Oregon's helmet designs. It is sure to upset the traditionalists out there, but it is cool to see the possibilities with Virginia Tech's color scheme.

Jakes' incredible work is not only limited to Virginia Tech work, as his man cave shows. He has the entire display lit with LED's to make them really pop. If you have a helmet idea, hit Jake up at jvincecustoms@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing what else Jake will create this season!
