One of the positions the Hokies have not recruited heavily under Buzz Williams is the PF/C spot. Khadim Sy and Kerry Blackshear Jr. are the only two big men Williams has brought in so far, and in a league like the ACC where there are so many talented big men, the Hokies need to ramp up their efforts to fill those positions on the roster for future years. As a result, Virginia Tech has been keeping a keen eye on 3* Forward RaiQuan Gray. Their determination in recruiting him has Gray one step closer to Blacksburg, as the 2017 prospect cut his list of schools in half to his remaining 6 options.
Thank you to the 30+ schools that made me a priority in this recruitment process but I have came to my final 6 ❗️ pic.twitter.com/QFWGWyMBAi

We've already done a comprehensive report on Gray, which you can read here. He's a versatile forward that can score, create, and defend. If Buzz Williams continues to play small ball - which helped the Hokies win 20 games last year - then Gray would be a great fit. He could fill Zach LeDay's role of being an undersized 5 after he graduates when the Hokies do decide to play four wings at once.
The Hokies will have healthy competition during this final stretch of recruitment for the 6-8 forward. Every single school on his list has been in contact with Gray and been recruiting him heavily. Even just two years ago, it would have been hard to imagine that the Hokies would be in the mix for a player with the size and skill combination that Gray possesses. It speaks profoundly to the effect winning can have on recruiting great talents. Buzz Williams continues to make an impact both outside and inside the lines of Cassell Coliseum.
