No. 17 Hokies Open with a Win Over LSU

The No. 17 Virginia Tech Hokies women's soccer team opened their season with a victory over LSU.

Late August approaches, which means the school year is about to start, which means that Hokie athletics begin to open their seasons!

The three way battle to start at QB for the newly appointed football head coach, Justin Fuente, has been grabbing headlines over the last few weeks, but a nationally ranked Hokie program has already grabbed a victory to start their season.

Murielle Tiernan started immediately where she left off last season and scored the only goal of the game to clinch a season opening victory over the Louisiana State University Tigers during the opening stage of the Charleston Tournament in Charleston, South Carolina.

The sole score of the game came during the 14th minute off a corner kick from Hokie sophomore, Anissa Dadkhah, which Tiernan sent into the net.

The Tigers struggled to mount any offensive attack against the Hokies, and only had one shot on goal, which was defended by Freshmen keeper, Mandy McGlynn.  The Hokies set up shop on LSU, and had 17 shots total, with nine of them on goal.

With the season opening victory the Hokies improve to 1-0 on the season.  They next face the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday, August 21.

Congratulations ladies!

Go Hokies!
