Cam Phillips Might Be Poised To Break Out

With the departure of Ford, Phillips looks ahead to 2017

NCAA Football: Belk Bowl-Arkansas vs Virginia Tech Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

The news of Isaiah Ford leaving Virginia Tech was a surprise. Many of the pundits talked about Ford staying on to cement himself in Virginia Tech’s record book. I don’t blame Isaiah Ford one bit for leaving, so let’s look ahead, shall we? If you take a quick look at the depth chart, the one returning receiver with any type of resume is Cam Phillips. Phillips posted his best year in 2016. He hauled in 76 receptions for 983 yards and 5 touchdowns. That’s pretty impressive. Factor in that he was lined up in the slot for most of his snaps, makes his stat line even more impressive. Fuente likes to share the wealth, and Cam was rich last season. When all the departures starting happening, he also had the funniest tweet of the day:

The simple fact is this. Guys like Deablo are going to have to step up next season. The rest is TBD. Incoming guys from #Statement17 might be asked to do a bit more than in previous seasons. Trust in Fuente.
