The Camping World Bowl pitted the Big 12 Oklahoma State Cowboys against the ACC Virginia Tech Hokies. The game was truly a battle of wills. The Cowboys like scoring points in bunches, and the Bud Foster led defense likes stopping just that. The Virginia Tech offense of late looked anemic, and most folks thought the Hokies couldn’t keep up in a track meet. The Hokies had an outstanding gameplan: play just enough good defense between the 20’s, and run the damn football. Virginia Tech executed the plan to perfection. They had some red zone hiccups (including a fumble at the O.S.U. 1 yard line), but still was in the game late.
In the end, Mason Rudolph was everything as advertised. Rudolph repeatedly scorched the defense. With 6:37 left in the ball game, the Hokies were down 13. Josh Jackson punched it in late to make it interesting. With 5:40 left, the Hokies only trailed by 6.
Justice Hill finished off the Hokies with a back breaking 31 yard run, but the Hokies battled until the end. The Hokies finish the season 9-4, and the Cowboys go to 10-3. Final score from Orlando: Oklahoma State 30 Virginia Tech 21.
