Duane Brown, the All-Pro left tackle of the Houston Texans and former Virginia Tech star, came to Blacksburg as a tight end. He made the move to offensive tackle and the rest is history. The Hokies hope Lecitus Smith, a 6’4”, 260-pound tight end from Fitzgerald, Ga., makes the switch as seamlessly as Brown once did.
Smith stayed at tight end in high school, but possesses the athleticism and raw power to transition to offensive line at the next level. Smith is powerful in-line blocker that easily drives defenders off the ball. He plays with a nasty streak that bodes well for a possible move to the offensive line.
While Smith projects to guard, he could be given an opportunity at offensive tackle, too.
As you can see with Smith, he is a terrific run-blocker. Smith is an underrated addition to the class of 2017.
