This past week first year head coach, John Sung, and the Virginia Tech Hokies lacrosse team opened their season against Gardner-Webb.
Coach Sung comes to VPI from Winthrop. While at Winthrop Sung built the team from scratch and led them to consecutive NCAA tournament appearances in 2015 and 2016. John Sung represents another hiring, by Athletic Director Whit Babcock, of a coach with a history of post season experience. While at Winthrop, Coach Sung finished with an overall record of 55-26. He earned two Big South championships, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and was twice named the Big South Coach of the Year.

Junior, Tristan McGinley, had a career high five goals in the 21-5 win over the Bulldogs, including the first two scores of the game. Virginia Tech dominated shots with a total of 41 to Gardner-Webb’s 10.
