WNIT Round 3: Virginia Tech Hokies Face Penn State

This past Sunday the women of the Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the Naval Academy Midshipmen, during the second round of the WNIT.

The Hokies were off to a fast start and outscored the USNA, 42-28. VPI was outscored, 36-33, during the second half, and the Middies closed to within four points, but the Hokies held on to win, 75-64.

Chanette Hicks scored 18 points, recovered two rebounds, and earned five steals. Samantha Hill added 16 points of her own and five rebounds. Sidney Cook provided the Hokies with a double-double, scoring 15 points and racking up 12 rebounds. Vanessa Panousis added eight points, which moved her up to eighth place on VT’s all time program scoring list.

Virginia Tech was 23-47 (48.9%) for field goals, while also tallying a respectable 12-22 (54.5%) for 3PTs. VPI was an impressive 17-20 (85.0%) from the free throw line, and had 29 total rebounds.

Today the Hokies travel to face the Penn State Nittany Lions at University Park. PSU is coming off a 70-51 victory over Fordham. Tip off is at 7pm.
