Virginia Tech’s spring football game is set and it will take place in Lane Stadium on Saturday, April 22nd at 2:30 p.m. ET. Head coach Justin Fuente met with the media and discussed the format for this year’s spring game.
The spring game will feature four 12-minute quarters with a running clock. It will be the Orange squad (offense) facing off against the Maroon squad (defense). Fuente will limit special teams for the spring game. There will be no kickoffs, no rushing the punter and the ball will be placed on the 35-yard line after scores.
Here’s how the scoring works:
Offensive Scoring
Touchdown = 6 points
Extra Point = 1 point
Field Goal = 3 points
Defensive Scoring
Turnovers = 7 points
3-and-outs = 3 points
Stop = 1 point
The Hokies currently have numerous injuries on both sides of the ball. It’s not as if they’ve all gotten hurt in the spring. They haven’t. They entered spring practice with several players sitting out due to offseason surgeries. That, of course, leaves the team a little thin for the spring. It does, however, give younger players an opportunity to stand out and make a push up the depth chart before the rest of the Tech’s 2017 class arrives this summer.
Continue to stick with us here at Gobbler Country as next week we’ll have a complete spring game preview.
