Okay, because these commitments can’t seem to happen when I’m not out of the house- cue calls for me to find a way to get out more often- tonight was the night that athlete Nadir Thompson decided to commit to the Hokies. An athlete from Bailey, North Carolina- the fourth NC commit of the class- Thompson will theoretically add to the defensive backfield with DJ Crossen, Chamarri Conner, Nasir Peoples, and Braxton Clark. He’s rated as three stars by Rivals (as an all-purpose running back), four stars by ESPN as an athlete, and three stars by 247 and scout as an athlete. Big spread. Thompson was recruited by Charley Wiles (area recruiter), and Brian Mitchell (position recruiter). He’s the 13th commitment to the class and the fifth in less than a week. A former NC State commitment, Thompson’s other scholarships include UNC, ECU, Duke, Virginia, and Wake Forest.
Let’s take a quick peek at the tape.
Nadir Thompson (Bailey, NC. 5’-10”, 165lbs. Athlete/Defensive Back)
Okay, so right now we’re mostly looking at athletic skills, as it’s obvious he plays a little of everything. Top talent? Speed. He’s shifty, of course, which helps- I can see why he’s an ‘all purpose back’, but I wouldn’t play him there just out of worry for his physique. He obviously flashes as a return option for a team that doesn’t have a devastating choice back there right now. However, I wouldn’t say that he was incapable of tackling or want-to on defense- he’ll chase people down and isn’t afraid of running into the middle of everything on returns or run plays. With Thompson, you’re getting a Swiss-army knife of speed-and-agility-based athletic skills. It’ll be interesting to see if they stick him at corner or safety, but I imagine the former, though he probably needs to add a good twenty pounds of muscle or so.
Welcome to Tech, Nadir.
