Former Virginia Tech Hokies stud, Bucky Hodges, has been signed to the Carolina Panthers practice squad. This is good news for Hodges. He was waived after final cuts, which surprised some. Being on the practice squad clearly isn’t the best possible outcome, but it’s a step in the right direction.

A quick look on the Carolina Panthers depth chart goes like this: Greg Olsen is the starter, Ed Dickson is the second tight end, and Chris Manhertz fills the third spot. Now it’s obvious that Olsen isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but he isn’t exactly a spring chicken. Cam Newton really enjoys throwing to this reliable target. If Bucky can be a true professional whilst on the practice squad, other doors can open up. He will demonstrate his ability to “act like a pro”. He will demonstrate the ability to play with the best athletes on the planet. I see Bucky making the most of his opportunity, and sticking in the N.F.L..
