There’s a lot of hype and coverage of the impending match-up between the football teams of Virginia Tech and Clemson, but something incredible has flown under the radar.
I have been remiss, you guys. Real life has been fairly demanding for me, and I have been derelict in my coverage of sports outside of football. That most certainly does not mean that great things have not been happening elsewhere in the Virginia Tech athletic landscape.
The Virginia Tech men’s soccer team did something fantastic last week! They defeated the No. 1 Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 2-1! VPI managed two goals against a squad that had only given up three total in their first six matches.

The Hokies started the season preseason ranked No. 17, but got off to a rough start falling to Ohmaha, Pacific, Duke, and No. 12 Virginia. They collected wins against No. 14 Creighton, Binghamton and Davidson to salvage a 3-4 record before the Irish came calling in Blacksburg.
The win over Notre Dame seems to have sparked something in the Hokies. They followed that victory with another over Longwood, which marks a three game winning streak that has carried VT to a current record of 5-4.
The Hokies next travel to visit Boston College!
