The No. 21 Virginia Tech Hokies defeated the No. 22 West Virginia Mountaineers, 31-24, on Sunday night in Landover, Maryland.
After a 10-7 game at halftime, both quarterbacks got comfortable and the game turned into an old-fashioned shootout. Virginia Tech freshman Josh Jackson had himself a terrific debut, passing for over 200 yards passing and 100 yards on the ground.
The Hokies had a chance to put the game on ice with under two minutes remaining but kicker Joey Slye missed a 32-yarder to give the Mountaineers another chance. WVU quarterback Will Grier was fantastic and almost led his team to overtime, but the Hokies’ defense held strong and start the season 1-0.
And the Hokies finally win at FedEx Field. We’ll have more on this game throughout the week.
