Delaware Head Coach Has Virginia Roots

Former Spider/Flame/Wahoo coach, Danny Rocco begins first year with Blue Hens

NCAA Football: Richmond at James Madison Brad Mills-USA TODAY Sports

Danny Rocco might be a familiar name for some you in Virginia. Rocco was the head coach of the Richmond Spiders from 2012-2016. He resurrected the stagnant Spiders, and put them back on track to success. He captured two CAA titles while at Richmond. Rocco’s Virginia ties run even deeper. His first head coaching job was at Liberty, from 2006-2011. There, he inherited a 1-10 club and transformed them into a Big South powerhouse. The Virginia lineage goes back even before that gig.

From 2001-2005, Rocco was employed at a school you may have heard of: The University of Virginia. That’s right folks. Even though this will be the first ever meeting between the Blue Hens and Hokies, Rocco has coached in Lane Stadium before. He initially was a recruiting coordinator/linebackers coach, and ended his tenure with the Cavaliers as associate head coach/linebackers. While the Blue Hens might be a bit intimidated seeing “Enter Sandman” from the sidelines, Rocco is accustomed to the view.
