The Washington Redskins capped off a disappointing season with a painful loss to the New York Giants, 10-18. After starting the season 3-2, including and impressive win over the Los Angeles Rams, the year quickly unraveled for the ‘Skins. Washington finished the season 7-9, missing the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Shortly after the loss, Pro Bowl DB and Virginia Tech Hokies All-American, DeAngelo Hall sent out a tweet heavy with implication.
As a kid I dreamed of playing for the team I grew up watching. Over the years I’ve enjoyed every moment. The highs, the lows, and the lessons helped mold me into the man I am today. Thank you to everyone that shared in the journey.

At the time of this writing (630 PM PST, 02JAN2018) there has been no official announcement regarding Mr. Hall’s retirement status, but there are significant indicators that 2017 might be his last season on an NFL roster.
Hall is 34-years old and will be a free agent entering this offseason. In both 2014 and 2016 Hall suffered serious season ending injuries. During 2014 Hall tore his Achilles tendon. In 2015, after the Achilles tendon injury healed, Hall switched from cornerback to safety. In 2016 he tore his ACL in week three and missed the remainder of the year. Due to the ACL tear, Hall started 2017 on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list where he remained until week nine.
Furthermore, D-Hall has spoken about what he would like to do once he takes off the cleats. In an espn.com article published this past June, Hall said, “I see myself in a suit doing something. I don’t see myself on the field coaching. I see myself in the front office…”
In a Washington Times article, published on New Years Day, Hall stated that he would consider both coaching or being an executive.
Hall hasn’t played a full season in four years and in these last four years has only played in 22 games. He has suffered two serious injuries, and he is entering a free-agency at an age where anything beyond a single season contract for a desperate team is not a reasonable expectation.
Again, nothing official has been announced by Hall or his representatives, but considering his history over the last four years, it is hard to see the superstar on an active roster come week one 2018.
Regardless of what comes to pass, we here at Gobbler Country wish all the best for Mr. Hall and wherever his future takes him!
Go Hokies!!!
