Gobbler Country’s Hokie Sports Evening News Round Up #14-1

It’s Monday and time for the weekly sports roundup. Sweet 16 for Men’s Soccer, and a Tournament win for the Basketball team, along with other goings on.

South End Zone is waiting for Black Friday
John Schneider- SB Nation

Winter is biting in the air, we are 10 degrees below average and that number is only reached for about an hour between 3:00 and 4:00 PM. Looks like the Almanac might be right, again. A cold winter looks like it’s building. All of the kids are out of town for Thanksgiving Vacation and the clock is ticking for Black Friday and the annual meeting with the Wahoos.

In the mean time there are some really interesting developments to share.

Hokie Basketball

Men’s

The Men’s Basketball Team started the season on an amazingly great note, by beating #23 Purdue for the Championship of the season opening Charleston Classic tournament.

There were lots of impressive players through the tournament but the Hokies’ Nickeil Alexander-Walker dominated the stats and netted an ACC Player of the Week award.

What’s more, the emphatic run through the brackets also perked up the ranking voters because your Virginia Tech Hokies are now ranked #10 in the ESPN Power rankings! Great way for Coach Williams and the 2018-2019 Hokie Men’s Basketball program to start off the season.

Maybe the football team and Hokie Nation need to look at this little inspiration from Buzz.

Women’s

Meanwhile the Women’s team is churning up the wins. They put up win #4 against Monmouth.

And will face off against Chattanooga at Cassell this evening at 7:00 PM.

Hokie Soccer

Men’s

The Men’s Soccer Team has advanced to the Sweet 16 by defeating Charlotte 1-0.

Meanwhile Nick Blacklock and Kyle Stenzel have signed his letters of intent; so welcome to Hokie Nation!

Women’s

The women’s team advanced to the round of 16 but just couldn’t get on the board against the UNC Tar Heels. This was a great season for the Hokies and next year is even more promising. Hokie Nation is very proud.

Hokie Football

When the rain comes down it comes down hard and keeps coming. Sean Savoy is departing. Sigh.

Guess some folks just have to move on for their own reasons.

Football needs to talk to Buzz about the #GetBetter and #JustGotBetter hashtags.

GO HOKIES!!!
