It started innocently enough. Cameron Smith, class of 2010, tweeted out some praise for Virginia Tech Hokies’ coach Buzz Williams.
Talking to my 84-year-old, Duke fan, Granmom this morning (off our @HokiesMBB win over BC!): "Your coach plays hard like the team, I like him." cc: @TeamCoachBuzz

This heart warming tweet was sent out two days ago, and it didn’t take long for the Hokies head man to reach out to weigh in with his feelings.
Can you bring Granmom to our game vs Duke?

I will get you guys seats on the floor, so she can her favorite team https://t.co/TC1U9TihUS
If you aren’t impressed with Buzz at this point, I might have to check your pulse. Cameron responded to Coach Buzz, and the Hokies’ interwebs exploded.
@TeamCoachBuzz can't think of a better way to spend Valentine's Day than celebrating a Hokies win in Durham. Let's make it happen! Granmom will be ecstatic. https://t.co/wL6ZCPXUM7

Gobbler Country had the chance to ask Cameron some questions about the once in a lifetime interaction, and we learned a few things about the luckiest girl in the Virginia Tech universe. Her grandparents are Devils, but she is a true Hokie.
I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2010 and will absolutely be cheering for the Hokies in my maroon & orange! My Granmom (quietly, from the VT section) will be rooting for Duke. My Grandad attended Duke for his undergraduate and divinity studies and was captain of the Duke swim team. They’ve been true Blue Devils fans my entire life. Granmom is a sports fan in general and always texts or calls my brother (also an alumnus) and me after Hokies games.
I was also curious if she was going to take Buzz up on his offer, and she assured me that Granmom was going to attend!
We both live in Raleigh and we’ll be traveling to Durham for the game on February 14th.
Hats off to Coach Buzz Williams, and a special thanks to Cameron Smith for giving us an inside glimpse into a special family. If you want to keep up with Cameron, you can follow her at @hokieheel.
