Labor Day is coming, and the Hokies’ opener presents a good value in the early going.

Heading down to Tallahassee to see the Virginia Tech Hokies face the Florida State Seminoles ? You will be encouraged by some great value in the ticket pricing. For those of you new to Gobbler Country, we use stubhub.com as our “leading market indicator”. Right now, you and up to five of your friends can acquire tickets for 90 bucks a throw. The seats aren’t fantastic, but they are lower end zone. This is a great time to go ahead and lock these seats in. The supply drops as the game approaches, and a holiday weekend should drive demand. Word to the wise: start looking at hotels NOW. A recent look at area decent hotels made me shudder.

The main strip of downtown Tallahassee is Monroe Street. That is why you will find eateries, but mainly watering holes. The city has a mini-beltline called Capital Circle. You would be in a great position getting a hotel anywhere on this main road. Again, we caution you of sticker shock, as many hotels are looking to cash in on the weekend. One interesting note is that parking passes are going for big bucks, so if you are planning the tailgate, check the availability. All in all, this is a great road trip outside of the high lodging cost. If you aren’t into the tailgate scene, we recommend staying outside of town to save a few bucks. We are staying on the western side of Tallahassee, and got a suite for two nights for around $500. Not bad considering it has room enough for 3 people, but still pricier than a normal game day weekend.
