Gobbler Country’s: Virginia Tech Hokie Evening News Roundup #2

It was a pretty quiet day for Tech sports. The first day of classes was accompanied by clouds and rain. There are always a few tidbits here and there to report on, though.

Football News

The Hokies made the AP Top 25 Poll. Virginia Tech checks in with a pleasant #20 and 351 votes which is an improvement over the #24 that we rated when we parted company with 2017.

The ranking is pleasant because it’s also just a tad surprising given the negative attention given to the changes to the Hokie Football Roster over the last six months. The biggest news beside that is that our first opponent, Florida State, comes in at #19, just ahead of us. Evidently the press corps thinks that we are more evenly matched than the published prognostications would let on. GOOD! We play better as underdogs.

Coach Fuente is doing a Live Appearance with Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop. If you want to catch it go to the IMG Sports Link.

Hey! The Notre Dame Game is sold out. Even single tickets are gone. Looks like folks are going to be doing the premium thing on the various ticket services.

If you have the coin, there are season tickets still available.

Virginia Tech News

The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets has completed Cadre and the Corps goes to normal activities for the rest of the semester. For those of us who did that sort of thing, “Normal” is a relative sort of thing. It’s something that I will remember my entire life. I hope that it has a positive impact on all of them.

Gobbler Country News

We are having a turn over of sorts. Roy Hatfield has moved on to more and busier schedules in his non-Hokie life. We wish him all the luck in the world and he’ll be checking in now and then to chip in with interesting things.

John Schneider (aka The Mighty Fahvaag) will be taking over the duties as Editor/Site Manager. We still have our writing staff in place. Jay Johnson will be covering non-revenue sports, game threads with his pile of gifs, and his great art work. Bryan D. Manning will be the main guy in the Press Box for Home games. Josh (BlueLoneWolf) will be covering recruiting and pitching in with analysis and Tweets. Jawhar is still our go to basketball analyst, even though he’s really great with football, too.

We’ll be doing more FB Live sets, especially a new post game wrap at Lane Stadium.

It’s going to be a great 2018. We hope that you will join us.

GO HOKIES!!!!
