Virginia Tech Hokies 2018 Fan Appreciation Day

It was fan appreciation day for the Hokies. So the Beamer Barn was opened up and the sharpies were deployed to sign everything from Tee Shirts, hats, flags, posters, and I even saw a cast or two getting scribbled on. A good time was had by all and the rain storm stayed away. GO HOKIES!!!

It wouldn’t be a Hokie Football event without our favorite bird!

It was 2018 Fan Appreciation Day at Virginia Tech. So, we did the fan plus reporter thing to make the day doubly fun. Since we report, we don’t get to be Hokies much, during home events, so every once in a while the camera gets to be secondary to the fun of adding to the mini-helmet collection, and smiling with the team before the long season starts.

Here are some photos to help get an idea of what was going on. Of course you might want to shred some old tires, and crank the humidity up to 100% and the temperature around 80. Even with all of the doors open, the Beamer Barn was a bit warm.

Today, GC Visited the Offensive line, the Specialists, and the Linebackers. My wife also made some strategic visits but I have only one camera and one me. So, let us take a look at what happened starting at around 2:30 PM.

There were lots of pens going. I am not sure which smell was worse, the Sharpie solvent or the artificial turf.

Some folks wanted other things signed besides tee’s, helmets, and footballs. There was even a cast or two being scribbled on.

This looks interesting. Those numbers and those faces do not match the roster. It’s going to be interesting once they get the final update done.

These numbers don’t match these guys.. huh?

I’ll put it right here. Real little and clear so you can see it.

By the end of the 90 minutes of signing time, it was getting really warm, and very humid in the Beamer Barn. It was definitely taking its toll on some players and fans. The players had actually been through a practice this morning so they were pretty “done” by the end.

This can be a bit tiring. It was a long day for Dylan and Daniel

I always have to give props to the guys who are going into the trenches. The Offensive Line is 85 percent of the running game and 65 percent of the passing attack. I’ll only give a little on the passing estimate, though. Truth is, if these guys don’t block effectively, nothing much happens on offense.

And we come to the end of the line. Well there were linebackers and specialists added to these signatures, but this mini will go up with it’s new pals from 2015, 2016, and 2017.

It was wonderful seeing the players that I could get to. They were in good spirits and were patient and kind with all of the fans, photography, and little chats.

This week is going to be super tough. Florida State is a complete unknown this season. Willie Taggart took over a talented team in a total shambles after losing nearly everyone in the coaching leadership. Their losses and our losses look to balance out. It’s going to be way closer than the sports pundits think.

GO HOKIES!!!!!
