Just a publishing note: We will be posting the Gobbler Country’s: Virginia Tech Hokies News Roundup on Sunday through Thursday evening. We need to leave a little room for the Football Game Previews, and prep articles.
Football News
You got to see the various pictures and comments on Sunday evening for 2018 Fan Appreciation Day. It was a nice time had by all, save the little black shreds of tire that I am still shaking out of my sneakers. It’s like being at the beach, there is sand everywhere, there. The upside of being at the beach is self evident. The upside of picking rubber sand grits out of your socks and shoes just smells like tires...
Enter Sandman
@VT_Football is reminding us that “Enter Sandman” made its debut as our entry feature song on August 27th, 2000. You know that the kids born that year are this year’s freshmen?!!

"Enter Sandman" by @Metallica made its debut as VT's intro anthem on August 27, 2000.
It remains one of college football's most enduring spectacles!

Rayshard Ashby has really impressed the defensive coaching staff, in particular, the boss of both the #LPD and the Linebackers, none other than Bud Foster.
THE #LPD LIVES HERE ❗@CoachFosterVT sees some of the same qualities in @__Lamont that @Uncle_Drew_28 brought to the MIKE linebacker spot. #Hokies pic.twitter.com/S09mQLjhXg

Hokies in the NFL
Did you know that Terrell is wearing a very famous number for the Steelers? #34 is Linebacker Andy Russell’s. Russell was a holdover from the prior coaching mess before Chuck Noll took over the Steelers in 1969. He was one of the few players to make the transition to the legendary 1970’s Steeler, and was one of foundations of their powerful defense. That’s a really good number to be wearing, I hope it brings him as much luck as it did Andy Russell (who deserves to be in the HOF, BTW).

Volleyball
The tall ladies with the killer spikes and diving digs started off the 2018 season with THREE wins! August 24th the blanked the University of South Carolina Upstate, 3 games to 0. The next day, they also blanked Presbyterian 3 games to nothing before wrapping up their opening series in the Charlotte invitational with a 3-2 victory over Charlotte. That means that the Hokies grabbed the co-championship for the tourney. Way to go!
Soccer
The Women’s soccer
The Hokie Women’s soccer effort finally got off of the par mark and put up two nice wins against hard fighting opponents. August 24th the Hokies pushed two goals across the line to beat the Women of UNC Wilmington 2-1.
Then, after a break for Saturday, the Hokies did the same thing to High Point University.
The Women’s Soccer record is 2-0-2 - Undefeated.
The Men’s soccer
The Men’s Soccer team is quite frankly tearing it up. They are currently undefeated. Their exhibition friendlies were all wins. They’ve been playing since August 11th. Their exhibitions started with a win against West Virginia 4-1, then a trip to Norfolk and they grabbed a 3-2 win over ODU. The exhibition season ended at home with a 1-0 win over Villanova.
The team traveled to Harrisonburg to take part in the JMU Tournament. There the Hokies defeated the Falcons of the Air Force Academy, 2-1 and then followed things up with a 2-1 win over Gardner-Webb.
This is the way to start a season for both teams.
And in Radio News, Jon Laaser and Mike Burnop will be doing their Tech Talk broadcast at 7 pm.
