Hokies Drop in Coaches Poll and Fall Out of the AP Poll

After the loss to Old Dominion, Virginia Tech is given graceful poll positions.

After their stunning loss to the Old Dominion Monarchs the Virginia Tech Hokies fell from being No. 10, in the Amway Coaches Poll, down to No. 24. The Duke Blue Devils make their Coaches Poll debut just above VT at No. 23. Next weekend’s primetime match will now be between two ranked conference foes. Clemson remains locked in at No. 2, and the highest ranked ACC program. Miami-Florida benefited from the littany of Top 25 upsets and jumped four spots to No. 16. The Syracuse Orange find themselves just outside the Top 25 with 83 points. Boston College fell completely out of the poll after being shellacked by the Purdue Boilermakers.

Full Poll Results.

The AP voters provided no such grace and dropped the Hokies completely out of their Top 25. VT received only 55 points. Duke makes their first appearance at No. 22 while Miami climbed five spots to No. 16. Clemson remained static at No. 3, Boston College was dropped, and Syracuse earned 25 points but remained well outside the rankings.

The Hokies receiving enough votes to remain a ranked squad, in either poll, is surprising and, in my opinion, a questionable result. Such grace is a surely a demonstration of confidence in Justin Fuente to awaken the talent resident on the Hokie roster and not an indication of their season’s resume. Time to go 1-0 every week.

Go Hokies!!!
