You guys! My day job has been keeping me busy and away for the last month, but I am back (for a little while)! We’ve got a lot to catch up on. Let’s get to it!
Lacrosse
Since the last time we met the Virginia Tech Hokies faced what must have been the most challenging final five game stretch of any team in the NCAA. After dispatching the Louisville Cardinals, 17-16, they faced five consecutive top ten match ups, including the top four teams. The final stretch started with No. 4 North Carolina defeating the Hokies, 19-5. No. 3 Syracuse then barely escaped with a 14-13 win over VT. Then the top ranked Boston College Eagles came calling and left Blacksburg victorious, 16-13. VT then traveled to Charlottesville where they fell to No. 7 Virginia, 13-10. This past Wednesday the Hokies again lost to the now No. 3 ranked Tar Heels, during the first round of the ACC Tournament, 19-9. Coach Sung’s sophomore season as head coach did not match his initial effort, but the Hokies faced ten top 25 squads during the 18 games they played. The Hokies finished the season with an overall record of 8-10 and a conference mark of 1-6. This season’s schedule was certainly challenging for the up and coming Virginia Tech lacrosse program, but they fought valiantly! Great work ladies!

Softball
Wow, this team has certainly found their stride. When last we discussed them the Hokies rocked a respectable 24-4 record. They have since improved to an impressive 40-8 overall record and 17-4 conference record. The highlight of the last month must be Keely Rochard’s perfect game against then No. 20 / No. 17 James Madison! This was the program’s seventh perfect game and first since 2012. Virginia Tech currently sports the best conference record in the ACC. In the conference, only the defending national champions, Florida State, have a better overall record at 42-8. This afternoon the No. 23 / No. 22 Hokies start a three game series against Boston College. Absolutely fantastic work ladies.
