Virginia Tech Hokie Sports Roundup for the Final Week of the Semester.

There were a few disappointments, not everything is wrapped up, but the Track and Field team triumphs again, and Cole Beck is looking like the fastest NCAA running back in History? We’ll see as we take a look on this cool damp Mother’s Day evening.

The Hokie Bird has been making the rounds saying good-bye.

Hokie Softball

Well the first round bye didn’t seem to help the Hokie softball team. It seems they unhappily lost their bats on the way to Tallahassee for the ACC Tournament. Their first game was also their swan song for the ACC Season. The Wolf Pack jumped out to an early top of the 1st inning lead, and hung two more runs on the Hokies in the 4th.

Tech would grab one more run but the bats had holes and the Pack just seemed to have the edge. The loss was disappointing, but this is not end the season for the Softball team. The Hokies will be traveling to the NCAA Tournament for the Lexington Kentucky Regional to face the double elimination stretch to try to grab a shot at advancing to the Super Regionals. The game starts at noon on Friday (Commencement Day).

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Go out and win!

Hokie Baseball

The Baseball team has unfortunately dropped it’s last non-conference game to visiting West Virginia. The game was a bit on the disappointing side, not just because of the score, 2-7... but the loss dropped the Hokies to .500 for the first time since very early in the season.

So it’s going to take some serious effort on Graduation Weekend as we host the Wahoos of UVA for a three game Commonwealth Clash season finale. Needless to say, the Hokies have to take at least two of the final three to nab that winning season.

Virginia Tech Outdoor Track and Field

It was another stellar season for the Track and Field teams. This past weekend was the ACC Track and Field Championship, and Tech conference domination just keeps on going.

The men’s track team claims another ACC title, their 9th!

In a little football related news, Cole Beck wasn’t at Spring practice this season. He’s actually not a football scholarship player. He’s has a track scholarship, and helped the track team dominate the competition. He ran in the 4x100 relay, and placed 4th in a 100m dash with a 10.22 second run. Cole is the fastest running back in the nation.

He redshirted last season, will we see him on Worsham Field in 2019? The track coach might be cringing a bit if we do. He’d make wheel routes really interesting, that’s for sure.

Exam Week

Last Thursday was Reading Day, and the Hokie Bird seems to be a bit creative about how study material is used.

The underclass students who are finished are already heading for the exits to 460. Summer Internships, jobs, and vacations await. There are quite a few left behind. Commencement is bright and early on Friday Morning in Lane Stadium. Blacksburg is about to get tiny and quiet, again.

Heads up for some long forms, Bryan’s review of each football player, and some scenes from Summer Time Tech, and the Fourth of July Celebration in my front yard. Lots of new stuff under construction. Still the same great quality.

Next season is going to be even better for the Hokies and for Gobbler Country.

As always. GO HOKIES!!!
