Virginia Tech Hokies Drop Out of The Polls After Wake Forest Loss

There is not much of a surprise, here. Virginia Tech’s ineffective offensive effort on Saturday, resulted in a complete washout in the polls on Sunday. The Hokies didn’t even get a single vote in the AP Poll. Time to get back to work.

The Season’s Results Suddenly Far Away and out of focus...

Well, you expect things to get pretty stinky when you lose a game that everyone expected you to win, but when the lid is pulled back on the box containing the facts, the Virginia Tech Hokies had some serious issues on Saturday, most of them on the offensive side of the ball.

So, the AP Writers punished us good and hard. We went from a healthy 19 to absolutely nowhere, dropping completely out of the poll with exactly zero votes.

The USAToday Amway Coaches’ Poll was a bit more kind with us receiving 22 votes for something like 37th place. Liberty and BC Ranked ahead of us, oddly enough.

The truth is that we probably deserved to drop out but frankly the AP’s complete dismissal is also indicative of the bandwagoning that goes on in the AP sports writers’ vote sheets. They have been spoiling to get rid of pesky ACC, AAC, C-USA and other ‘lower prestige’ conferences and get back to flogging their usual top tier Power 5 conference favorites.

Tech has a lot of work to do, and there isn’t a whole lot of time to figure out what happened to the Offense, and prepare the Defense for a premier running back from Louisville. Tech won’t be favored, by any stretch of the imagination, and that’s probably good. The Hokies seem to be a better more determined football team when being disrespected.

Next week the Louisville game is kicking off at 4:00. There are lots of things to address and some honest self-appraisal from both players and the coaching staff. Next week both the staff and the players should expect better performances of themselves.

The COVID Season continues to reflect the loveliness of 2020.
