Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Duke Blue Devils: Official Gobbler Country Game Thread

It’s October, it’s cool, it’s definitely Autumn, and the Virginia Tech Hokies Head to Wallace Wade Stadium on the Duke University Campus to face the Blue Devils in a major ACC matchup that means something big this year. Comment, commiserate, complain, cheer... observe, but participate. GO HOKIES!!!

So, it’s nearly time for the biggest revenge game that Virginia Tech has played in quite a few years. The first contest against Pitt, after they joined the ACC and dropped into our Division was set for some serious push, but given the nature of the disaster from last season, back at Lane Stadium, on that fateful Friday, the Hokies have been spoiling for this one.

The kickoff is likely to be shortly after 4:00 and by 7:00 well know if we have achieved some measure of redemption. The Hokies have to answer the following questions:

Who’s starting at QB? Hendon Hooker is supposed to get the snaps, but last week’s performance could put Braxton Burmeister or Quincy Patterson on the field for nearly any reason.

Will the Offensive line continue where it left off? Duke’s defense is better than NC State’s and will present a serious challenge. Will the new nasty keep building and getting stronger?

Will the Tech Defense continue on its #LPD ways? Will Justin Hamilton be back and healthy to call the plays, and will Ryan Smith’s defensive backs be ready for some real opportunities?

Who will be running the ball? We know Khalil Herbert is likely to get some serious field time. Raheem Blackshear and Jalen Holston are both warmed and ready to go. Will Keshawn King make it back to the field this weekend?

Will the receivers have a chance to shine this week? Will Tre Turner get some serious touches? Will Tayvion Robinson run one back, or maybe break downfield for another TD reception or two? Will James Mitchell get in on the act, and Raheem Blackshear get to show his stuff out of the backfield?

There are more, but let’s give the Hokies a chance to answer those questions.

It all will unfold in front of our eyes, right now.
