Virginia Tech football: Three-star receiver Tray Curry decommits

This is not a surprise.

The Virginia Tech Hokies lost a commitment on Tuesday night when three-star receiver Tray Curry backed off his pledge to the Hokies.

A 6-foot-4, 210-pound wide receiver from Cleveland, Tenn., Curry committed to the Hokies back in July. He had never been to Blacksburg and his commitment caught many by surprise.

Now, it is never a good thing when a team loses a commitment. It’s not here. However, the Hokies still have commitments from receivers Jaylen Jones and Da’Wain Lofton. Curry’s size was certainly intriguing and would’ve been a welcome addition to the class of 2021.

Some around the program never felt Curry was going to stick with his pledge. The good news is wide receiver is a much easier position to recruit than say quarterback, offensive or defensive line or cornerback.

The Hokies have certainly had numerous decommitments from this class, but there will be many more all around college football. With COVID-19 and a lack of visits, kids are pledging to schools to get a spot. In some cases, kids will drop the school, and in other instances the school will move on to higher-rated kids.

That’s the business, unfortunately.

Virginia Tech still has 21 commitments in the class of 2021.
