On Tuesday night the Hokies host Penn State as part of the annual ACC / Big Ten Challenge. Tech picked up their 4th win of the season this past Thursday, are ranked 16th at the moment, but may have moved up a few spots by the time this contest tips off with new rankings coming out on Monday. The Hokies have three players averaging over 10 points and have shown their depth early with nine players getting over 10 minutes a game.
Penn State had their opener against Drexel canceled before picking up victories against VMI and then VCU. PSU’s Seth Lundy went for 32 points against VCU, so controlling him will be key for the Hokies on Tuesday. Tech has lost the last two times these sides faced off, but both contests were at Penn State. The last time the game was held in Blacksburg was 2010 with VT picking up the win by 10 points. It’s another great test for the Hokies’ depth, composure, and their readiness for the ACC.

Stat Leaders
Scoring: Aluma (VT - 17.8) & Lundy (Penn State - 22.0)
Rebounds: Mutts (VT - 7.0) & Harrar (Penn State - 8.5)
Assists: Mutts (VT - 3.3) & Wheeler (Penn State - 4.5)
Tech has transformed from a team primarily dependent on freshmen to a quality set of experienced transfers taking the lead while the now sophomore class continues to impress. Justyn Mutts is quietly becoming a crucial addition as he continues to grow into the season. The big question heading into Tuesday night is the status of transfer guard Cartier Diarra who sat out the game against VMI after having a great series at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament. After the Penn State game, VT has a week off until they kick off their ACC schedule hosting Clemson on 12/15.
