It’s the third time in five weeks.

Former Virginia Tech wide receiver Cam Phillips had himself another memorable weekend in the XFL. Phillips caught 10 passes for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

For his outstanding performance, Phillips was named the XFL star of the week. It is the third time this season that Phillips has won the award. That means in five weeks, Phillips has won the award 60 percent of the time.

On the season, Phillips has now caught 31 passes for 455 yards and nine touchdowns. Not bad numbers for Virginia Tech’s all-time leading receiver.

The XFL schedule has just reached its midway point and Phillips the best player in the league. While the NFL Draft is strong at wide receiver this year, the veteran free-agent market isn’t. Don’t be surprised if Phillips gets the NFL call he deserves once the XFL season wraps up.

While the XFL has its critics, and I don’t really understand why, it has been a great showcase for many players. For guys who were passed up, thought to be finished or never received a chance at all, they are getting a chance to shine. And Cam Phillips is outshining everyone.

Hokies, are you watching or tracking Phillips in the XFL?
