The Virginia Tech Hokies added a new defender for the 2020 season on Monday. Linebacker Austin Rosa, formerly of Rutgers, transferred to Virginia Tech for his final collegiate season.
Now, before you get excited, please relax. Rosa played five seasons with the Scarlet Knights and just a total of 11 games. He has four career tackles. Not to mention, the Hokies have some pretty good linebackers in 2020 with Rayshard Ashby, Dax Hollifield, Alan Tisdale and Keshon Artis all returning.
Rosa first arrived at Rutgers in 2015. He redshirted and in two of the next three seasons, he played in a total of six games, registering zero tackles. In 2019, Rosa played in five games and made all four of his career tackles.
The 5-foot-10, 213-pound Rosa will likely play special teams for Virginia Tech. A native of Reading, Pa., Rosa is also a two-time Academic All-Big 10 selection.
Rosa will be a walk-on for the Hokies and apparently wear No. 55 this fall.
