RANKING ALL 2019-2020 COLLEGE-FOOTBALL OVERTIMES
By Timothy Oblad
During the 2019 season there was at least one overtime game each week of the season with the exception of weeks 3 and 13. The 2nd week of the season may have been one of the most exciting weeks for college football fans as there were 6 OT games including former Big12 rivals Nebraska and Colorado meeting up for the first time in nearly a decade, a military school taking #7 Michigan into 2 overtimes, a cross-country comeback win over Tennessee and a wild 4th quarter shootout that ended tragically in overtime for UL-Monroe against Florida State. Baylor may have an overtime addiction as they had 3 OT games with two of them going into double or triple OT.
Below are all overtime games that have been rank-ordered based on a number of ‘entertainment' factors such as; high-scoring fourth quarters that led to comeback wins in OT (e.g., WMU-Ohio 31 combined 4th quarter points), overcoming major late-game deficits (e.g., SMU-Tulsa), # of OT's (e.g., VT-UNC 6 OT's), avoiding catastrophic upsets (Florida St-ULM; Michigan-Army), rivalry games (Iowa-UNI) or brawls (UNLV-UNR) and obviously upset wins in OT (e.g., USC-BYU; Georgia-SC).
